If you were in a car crash, rescued from drowning or other emergency situation, couldn’t talk and your cell phone was locked, how would your loved ones be notified?

If you register your Emergency Contact Information (ECI) into the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles system, law enforcement can contact your loved ones for you, and quickly, even across state lines.

According to the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles Department, ECI is inside the “D.A.V.I.D.” (Driver and Vehicle Information Database) system which is a secured database used by most law enforcement agencies in the State of Florida and law enforcement nationwide. This enables them to contact your designated loved ones in response to an emergency situation.

The ECI was spearheaded by Christine Olson in memory of her daughter Tiffany. In 2005, Tiffany was involved in a fatal crash and, since there was no emergency contact program, it took more than six hours before Christine was notified! Those hours cost Christine the gift of time to say good-bye.

I’ve registered and urge you to register today! This way if you are in a serious accident and are not able to call your family yourself, the highway patrol or other law enforcement can. To register, click here.
